Our Programmes
The Extra Lesson™
The primary therapeutic method used at the Developmental Learning Centre is The Extra Lesson™. This is an holistic internationally recognised one to one programme developed out of Rudolf Steiner’s approach to education by Audrey McAllen, a British teacher, researcher and remedial therapist. This approach is combined with the latest neuro-physiological research into brain development so that the obstacles impeding your child’s learning ability can be identified and treated.
Integrated Listening Systems Listening Therapy
Our listening therapy or auditory processing programmes are used primarily to assist children with auditory processing (listening) difficulties. They are also helpful for children with sensory integration and attentional difficulties such as Aspergers, ADHD and ADD. Our auditory processing programmes retrain the auditory system and the brain to help normalise the way your child processes sound.
Integrated Listening Systems (iLs) unique listening programs “exercise” the visual, auditory, and balance systems simultaneously, improving mental and physical abilities as well as self-confidence. The system is available as a 12 week in-clinic intensive programme or as a listen at home programme.
Our Philosophy
Central to the programme is the recognition of the child or adolescent as a unique and worthwhile individual. Every aspect of the child or young person is taken into account including the physical, emotional, social and intellectual.
