ADHD, ADD, GDD. Regardless of the label, let's start helping our children

ADHD, ADD, GDDThere are many names given to children with learning or behavioural difficulties

  • ADHD (Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder)
  • ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)
  • GDD (Global Developmental Delay)
  • PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder)
  • ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • And let's not forget Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and Aspergers!

But in my experience, the names above are simply descriptions of symptoms

Because it's only in recent years that any real understanding of underlying causes has emerged.

What we know about children with learning difficulties

Whatever label you use, these kids are struggling with a development delay which began in the first four months of life.

Here's the research:

  • Dr Robin Puac (a functional neurologist) has found that at 4 months of age there is a sudden change in brain development associated with the growth of the frontal cortex. These 'alphabet' or 'acronym' kids almost all show a disruption at this crucial stage of development.
  • Audrey McAllen (who developed “The Extra Lesson™” programme) noted that the basic skills required for learning (such as spatial orientation and body geography) also begin to develop during this crucial period of life.
  • Sally Goddard in “Reflexes Learning and Behaviour” found that the primitive reflexes that babies are born with (to ensure survival after birth) should all be suppressed by the baby’s own movement on the floor in these crucial first 4 months. When these reflexes remain, they interfere with the processes of thought and memory. A direct cause-and-effect relationship can be seen between specific symptoms and specific reflexes which have been retained.

So what has happened to our beautiful children?

  • They are all struggling with their learning equipment.
  • They are asking themselves the question ‘how do I get into my body and make it work well for me?’

What we can do to help

The Extra Lesson™ intervention programme, effectively, gently and holistically removes these neuro developmental delays and restores to these children their true learning potential.

It does this by revisiting the entire sequence of early childhood movement patterns from the moment of birth.

And I know it works, because I've used it succesfully for more than a decade.
