Enhance focus, learning & emotional regulation
WHAT IS ADHD?
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning like focus, organisation, and emotional regulation.
THE GROUND-UP APPROACH TO SUPPORTING ADHD
Symptoms associated with learning or behavioural difficulties stem from somewhere, so what is why the Developmental Learning Centre focus on neurodevelopmental foundations as the first point of investigation for any learning or behavioural challenge.
This is called a “ground -up approach”
Integrated Listening Assessment/Therapy
Struggling with focus or following instructions? It may not just be attention.
What you may notice
-
Easily distracted
-
Poor focus and concentration
-
Difficulty remembering information
-
Needs instructions repeated
-
Misses parts of what’s said
-
Sensitive to noise
These can look like ADHD
But there may be another layer.
Auditory processing is the brain’s ability to interpret and organise incoming auditory input.
When functioning is reduced, listening becomes effortful and less efficient.
This can impact
-
Reading and spelling
-
Following instructions
-
Classroom learning
This can look like
Working harder to listen all day can be exhausting.
-
Tiredness after school
-
Overwhelmed in noisy environments
-
Emotional dysregulation
What looks like inattention…
may actually be difficulty processing sound.
ASSESSMENT
Identifies if there may be a auditory issue
THERAPY
Supports how the brain processes sound
Integrated Listening Therapy helps to:
-
Strengthen auditory processing
-
Support attention and focus
-
Build stronger neural pathways
.
Look Beneath the Surface
Retained Reflexes
Early reflexes that haven’t fully integrated can keep the brain in a protective state.
-
The brain defaults to fight or flight
-
Filtering information becomes harder
-
The thinking brain becomes less accessible
-
Focus drops
-
Impulses take over
THEN: This can lead to inconsistent learning and reactive behaviour.
Symptoms
-
Distractibility
-
Fidgeting & restlessness
-
Impulsive behaviour
-
Emotional outbursts
-
Difficulty in social settings
-
Anxiety
Vestibular Seeking
Understanding the need to move
An under active vestibular system (balance & movement) can drive constant motion.
-
Can’t sit still
-
Seeks movement
-
Struggles to concentrate
Movement isn’t misbehaviour—it’s regulation.
Many children with attention challenges also have non-intergrated reflexes.
What looks like behaviour may be neurological.
What may actually be happening
-
Immature neural pathways
-
Poor sensory integration
-
Reduced regulation capacity
Developmental Movement Therapy
Once identified, we can support the brain to develop.
Integrate retained reflexes
Strengthen neural pathways
Improve focus and regulation
When the foundation strengthens…
Learning becomes easier
Behaviour stabilises
Confidence grows
